St Paul's: Where would Jesus stand?
The disciples looked at the city of tents and Jesus said: “Who are these people?”
And Simon Peter replied: “They are bearing witness to the plight of the poor, because the tax avoiders, speculators and bonus collectors have been given power over them and now threaten the world.”
Jesus measured the distance between the tents and the temple and found it was quite a long way.
Then Jesus said: “Do you not see the risk to health and safety here? Are there not masters of the temple who are themselves speculators and might be inappropriately discomfited by some of the banners? Close the temple immediately so that nobody should have access to my father in heaven while this insult to the rich continues.”
I don’t think so.
So here is our question to the authorities at St Paul’s Cathedral: whose side do you think Jesus would be on? Those who are making a stand against corrosive finance or health and safety?
