nef believes that the global economy isn’t working for people, or the planet. It is becoming increasingly impossible to escape the conclusion that the current paradigm of economic development is not working. It is unlikely that the Millennium Development Goals will be met across most of the developing world, and we are fast approaching the point at which climate change will become irreversible. Our global economic system is simply not delivering on our social and environmental goals.
The institutions which control international finance are not democratically run. Rich nations are over-represented, and poor nations have their interests marginalised.
nef believes that there is a real chance for a more fundamental shift in the global economic system than has been possible in recent decades. We work to develop alternative development models, while also exposing the inadequacies of the current system.
