Launched during nef's Bigger Picture event series in 2009, Ration Me Up brings together scientists, artists and activists to help you live within your equitable carbon allowance.
With the threat of climate change looming over us, it's easy to feel helpless. Small behavioural changes can seem like a waste of time in the face of the problem. Changing your lightbulbs is not the same thing as changing the world.
There are, however, many steps that we can take to tackle climate change in our own lives. But they are part of a significant shift away from the way we live and consume today. The Ration Me Up Carbon Ration Book will help you make active choices to change your habits for the better.
Each ration book contains coupons for energy and water use, transportation, food and clothing. To stay under your personal allowance of 1.15 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent a year, you can only use forty coupons a month. But remember that the best things in life are free: there plenty of activities which make life worth living - from flying a kite to talking to your friends - emit little to no greenhouse gas at all. There's a good chance that living more sustainably could also make us a great deal happier.
For all enquiries please contact Clare Patey or Jonathan Atkinson. The ration books will be available to buy from the nef website soon!
